Police were seen following 18 year old Ramarley Graham into his house as they claimed they believed he had just taken part in a drug deal and also had a gun . The family is devastated by the incident accured . A year later , family and friends gathered in front of the 47th Precinct in his honor. The march was led by his parents and younger brother (who was at home when he was shot).
His family says they were there to get justice , aswell as to highlight a bias by some officers against young male minorities . As officers said they thought he had a gun , he was not armed , but they did find marijuana in his possesion . Misinformation was given to the media when the officer said he believed his life was in danger after the victim did not show his hands after a command and in the surveillance camera no violence was shown towards the officers . Four months after the incident , officer Haste was charged with first- and second- degree manslaughter. he pleaded not guilty and is now awaiting trial .
